At the 2001 Embassy Championships Monk suffered a surprise first round exit at he hands of talented Finland International Marko Pusa in a titanic battle. Monk showed his fighting qualities in a dramatic comeback but was eventually foiled by the eventual quarter finalist.

During the millennium championships, Monk showed glimpses of his undoubted ability before losing out to Ronnie Baxter 5-4 in the quarterfinals.

The closest the Hants player has come to winning the coveted title at Frimley Green was a semi final berth, yet his finest hour came when he carried off the Winmau World Masters crown in 1996.

Monk has earned a reputation as a fearsome player on the tournament circuit, a point underlined by his tremendous European exploits coupled with the British Open title.
